Our work in Warehousing arose because we had to help with so many failing warehousing systems.
As with Manufacturing, the nature of your product can profoundly alter what you need.
Many systems on the market constrain the number of locations, or fail to record batch numbers for fifo selection on products with limited shelf life.
Why would you need to store stock in many locations ? What if you make 60 large items at a time, and only 5 will fit in your racking, before it buckles ?
What if you're concerned about mixed batches of product being shipped ? Separating them can reduce false booking.
How do you need to pick product ? By age, picking route, empty high racks first, empty racks with smallest residual quantity first ?
All of these options can make a huge difference to how efficiently you use your space, or how much product has to be discarded.
How are you going to record shipments ? Barcoding and RFID are effective options, so how will the data get back to the system ? Wireless, download cradle ?
All of these are technologies we have worked with, making sure the resulting system is cost effective and reliable.
